Academic and Professional Biography
I am an educator, writer, and reflective practitioner whose work centers on learning, language, and intentional engagement with knowledge and time. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Classics from Davidson College, where I pursued intensive study of ancient languages, philosophy, and the intellectual traditions of the Greco-Roman world. I am a member of Phi Beta Kappa, recognizing my academic achievement and commitment to the liberal arts.
I earned my Master of Science in Education from the University of Rochester’s Warner School of Education, where my graduate training emphasized pedagogy, learner-centered instruction, and the practical realities of teaching across diverse adult populations. My academic journey reflects a sustained interest in how people make meaning, acquire skills, and develop agency through education—particularly outside of traditional classroom settings.
Professionally, I have extensive experience in adult education, with a focus on English as a Second Language (ESL) and computer literacy. My work has supported adult learners navigating new linguistic, technological, and cultural environments, often at critical points of personal and professional transition. As a native Spanish speaker and former medical interpreter, I have worked at the intersection of language, access, and care, facilitating communication in high-stakes healthcare settings and developing a nuanced understanding of how language mediates power, trust, and understanding.
Across my academic training and professional roles, my focus has consistently returned to questions of interpretation—of texts, systems, and lived experience. My background in Classics informs my interest in long-form thinking, ethical inquiry, and the continuity between ancient wisdom and modern life, while my work in education grounds those interests in practical, human-centered application.
My current pursuits integrate education, reflective writing, and intentional living practices, exploring how individuals can reclaim attention, time, and purpose within contemporary constraints. My projects emphasize clarity over productivity, understanding over optimization, and learning as a lifelong, self-directed process.
